What is Smart Car Repair & Motoring?
Nowadays, when taking care of the environment has become a priority, it has been realised that enough small changes made by many people can make a difference. Not just limited to recycling cans and saving electricity, this also extends to driving. If you are smart, car repair and motoring need not be such a burden on your surroundings.
Here are a few changes you can make, some of which will benefit not only the environment, but your safety and hip pocket as well!
Speed Density Verses Mass Air Flow – Why Should You Convert?
Speed Density and Mass Air Flow are two different systems used by Ford to help an engines computer regulate the amount of Fuel and timing adjustments the engine will require in order to run effectively and efficiently. In very simple terms, I’m going to attempt to explain how each one works and what you should do if you own a vehicle with one of these systems.
Ford came out with Speed Density first, and basically an engineer sat down and wrote a program based on the current data he had on hand, as in engine size, design, and what ever other variables where involved with that engine and that vehicle operating program is pretty much set in stone. When you turn the key on, and start a vehicle with this system, you will get the same result each and every time. The room for varying any parameters if very minuscule.
Why You Should Invest in a Car Engine Hoist
Your wife finally agreed to let you buy a car engine hoist. She does not know it yet but she did. When you brought up the subject at breakfast this morning she said that you could not have one of those big, ugly, old bulky things that stayed up all the time and took up all the garage space. So you asked her if you could get one that can easily be taken apart and stored. She laughed and said, sure but she has no idea that she said yes to the exact same thing you asked earlier, and exactly what you really wanted for the garage.
There are two different models of engine hoists that become compact and can be stored away. One is made to assemble and disassemble easily and quickly. You have to take that one apart and parts can get lost, especially with all the “help” you get in your garage. The one you want is the folding model. With this one the legs fold up and the boom folds down. It makes a very compact unit when it is folded. What you need to use it you simply roll it out and put it back up.
Car Pulls – Alignment Problem Or Tires?
A car that pulls or drifts to one side may have a tire problem, an alignment problem or both. Sometimes the tires can show some uneven wear that can result in pulling. Other times the tires can look perfectly fine and the car will pull to the right or left. Yes, it is best to have the alignment checked if there is any doubt about the alignment being out of specification. But, if the tires are wearing nicely and you have a very hard pull at slow speeds, it could just be caused by a tire.
Radial Tires. Radial tires are designed to grip the road. If the tire belts are slightly off the tire can grip the road unevenly. The tire belts can be off slightly from the factory or can be altered by an impact from the road such as hitting a pothole or an object on the road. If any of the tires have any bulges in the tread area, known as separations or slipped belts, the tire must be replaced. Failure to replace a tire with a slipped belt will most likely result in a blow out and possible vehicle damage. Very slight bulges on the sidewall, small dimples are normal and can be found on any tire. The dimples are the seams where the tires have been put together at the factory.
Converting a One Car Garage Into an Automotive Repair Workshop
It is amazing the level of human ingenuity that can turn a simple one car garage into a surprisingly convenient, effective and even efficient automotive workshop.
Often it is only a case of finding another place to store all those bicycles lawn mowers and garden tools that clutter up most home garages. Sometimes it is just tidying up and rearranging. Other times it’s a matter of finding alternate storage or purchasing a garden shed to store the paraphernalia in. Using that off site storage can be said to be first vital step in your project of using garage space devoted almost exclusively towards an auto workshop area.
First things first. In terms of planning and rearranging interior space areas the basic procedure and strategy is to ensure that your workshop is as comfortable and pleasant possible for you to work on and upgrade cars and trucks in. Cover the walls with wallboard and paint them with a washable semi gloss latex or oil based paint. White or another similar bright color will reflect as much light as possible. It is pointless in most climates, except up north in Canada or in the northern US states to insulate garage walls generally since so much heat escapes past the typical garage door. Scrub the concrete floor with a special concrete cleaner-etcher to remove grease and grime. Patch any broken spots, and then seal the surface with not one but two coats of epoxy resin concrete floor paint. A bright color will enable you to easily locate and find lost screws and washers more easily and effortlessly.
